Please Urge House Leadership to Defend DOMA!

Summary of the Problem

Because the president refuses to defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act, the Congress can step in and do so.  This is our only chance to save DOMA.  More information on this issue can be found in the action alert posted below.
You can personally help save DOMA by sending the suggested email below to House Speaker Boehner.  Copies will also go to the top House leadership.

Dear Speaker Boehner,
I am very concerned about President Obama’s decision not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in court. It is not up to the president to unilaterally decide a law is unconstitutional and then refuse to carry out his responsibility to defend it. His actions strike at the very foundation of our form of government and I believe were taken largely for his own political benefit.
I am also concerned that his actions put at risk our ability to protect traditional marriage in the U.S. The vast majority of the states and a clear majority of the American people support traditional marriage and reject redefining it to allow homosexuals to “marry.” It is essential to our future as a society that we protect the fundamental institution of traditional marriage.
I know that as a result of the president’s decision, Congress can now step in and defend DOMA in the courts. I strongly urge you to take whatever steps are necessary to do this.
Thank you for considering my concerns and views.

Sincerely,
