It is bad enough that the Obama Administration has chosen to implement much of the DREAM Act amnesty by executive fiat, but the problem is compounded by the failure of Congress to react against the usurpation of its power to make laws.
The administration said the new policy would cover 800,000 illegal aliens, but a new estimate from the Migration Policy Institute—after reviewing the procedures announced by Homeland Security—puts the number at 1.8 million.
Please call the Congressional leadership over the next week and demand that they stop the amnesty and restore the rule of law to our immigration policy. Use the following talking points:
- Congress is responsible for establishing immigration laws. For Obama to impose an amnesty that he could not get through Congress is undemocratic.
- HR 5957 and HR5953 would block the Secretary of Homeland Security from deferring deportations or from limiting the enforcement of our immigration laws.
- Millions of Americans are unemployed. Issuing work permits to a million illegal immigrants is an insult to unemployed American citizens and legal immigrants.
- Each new amnesty scheme encourages more illegal immigration. We must enforce our immigration laws, not ignore them.
